When are practices?
Practices are one night a week, and are held on either a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.. Practices are for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on the grade.
Where are practices held?
All cheerleading teams will practice at FBC Wylie. Basketball teams will be practicing at either the FBC Wylie Gym or at a local School. This will be determined by the number of teams and the space needed/available for practice.
When are games?
All games are played on Saturdays. The times for games will be set once registration and evaluations are completed and teams are formed..
What is the evaluation process?
One of the goals of the Upward Ministries is to create teams of equal skill level. The evaluation process is a set of sport specific drills that help the computer draft teams according to skill level. The only people who see the evaluation scores are the coach and Upward Ministry team members. The evaluation process is not used to determine who can or cannot play.
What is the devotion during practice?
Upward is not just a sports league, it is a ministry open to all who participate. We hope to share the love of Jesus Christ with all that we come in contact with. One of he ways we do this is to take a few minutes at each practice to share an age appropriate devotion which is provided by Upward in the coaches playbook. It is through these devotions that we hope to see a participant come to know Christ or to strengthen the walk of those that already know Him.
What is the purpose of the STARS in Upward?
The STARS are one of ways that Upward recognizes that "Every Child is a Winner". The green stars are given out for participating in the practice time devotion. The game day stars each represent different aspects of the game and a star is awarded to every player on the team at the end of each game.
